Canada Hunting and Fishing
Canada is one of the premier destinations for outdoor sporting enthusiasts worldwide, for a number of reasons. Canada is huge – the second largest country in the world by land mass-and there are not many people living there. In fact, the total population of Canada is just over that of the New York and Los Angeles areas combined. Moreover, more than 75% of Canada’s population lives within 160 miles of the Border with the United States and 80% are concentrated in major metropolitan areas.
What this all means for the hunter and angler is that Canada has a lot of wild spaces. Untamed rivers, natural lakes, and huge expanses of uninterrupted forest are all trademarks of the Canadian wilderness, and these areas are literally teeming with fish and game.
The opportunities for unique, successful hunting and fishing excursions all over Canada mean that the country sees a large number of visitors for the purpose each year. Sportsmen who come to Canada are for the most part from the United States and Europe. In an average year, these hunters and anglers will purchase around 50,000 hunting licenses with the number of fishing licenses estimated to be more then triple that amount. The favorite destination of most of these hunters and anglers continues to be the west, especially in the north, where some of the most unique opportunities are to be found.
