Canada Fly In Fishing Trips and Vacations

Canada Fly In FishingThe incredible amount of undeveloped wilderness in Canada is any sportsman’s dream, but getting to prime spots where the fish or game live in waters virtually untouched by human development can mean a difficult trek. Although intrepid outdoors people may be able to access these remote areas over a month or so long trip which could incorporate horseback riding, hiking, camping, canoeing and portaging, it is a sad fact that in today’s busy world most of us just do not have the time to make such a trip. But never fear, many of Canada’s remote lakes and rivers are open to anglers looking for that unique experience through fly in fishing trips.

Flying into a given area is actually not that uncommon in many of Canada’s remoter northern areas. In fact, some villages on Canada’s west coast are only accessible through the use of a float plane. Fly in fishing uses this concept to fly anglers via a float plane to an isolated lake or watershed, where more often than not the outpost developed by the company is the only sign of human activity for hundreds of kilometers. Fly in fishing trips need to be booked in advance, and should not be mistaken for guided trips; once dropped off with gear, food, and tackle at the destination, the angler or group are on their own to enjoy the pristine atmosphere until their trip is over. This means a chance for any angler to determine their entire day, get up when the please, use their own methods when out on the lake, and most of all have an unharried time out in the great outdoors.

Most fly in fishing operations have at the very least outposts on the lakes on which they operate which include household items such as appliances and running water, as well as boats available to the anglers. Some fly in fishing operations have huge lodges built in their remote locations, with all sorts of amenities including hot tubs and satellite television; the experience is really up to the angler.

Where all fly in fishing trips are similar is in the size of the fish that can, with luck, be brought in by an angler. All fly in fishing trips are based on remote water systems, and this means that the fish in the systems are not pursued as much as their cousins in areas that are more developed (in other words, where anyone with an SUV or old pickup can drive to the lake). Fish in these lakes therefore tend to be a lot bigger, and can even be easier to catch as they are not used to rigs, just natural food.

The type of fish that can be caught while on a fly in fishing trip will depend upon what part of Canada you are fishing in. Northern pike, walleye, and brook trout grow to massive proportions in the near north of the country, right from east to west. The eastern areas of Ontario in particular are noted for the size of the pike which have been caught there, although the Yukon territory claims a close rivalry. In the far north, the remote fishing experience gives anglers a chance at Arctic char and grayling, as well as the species found in the southern areas. In the west, fly in fishing trips in the province of British Columbia can mean a chance to entice a big kokanee (a land locked version of sockeye salmon) to strike on a set up, a chance at a fight any angler would not want to miss. Fishing for rainbow trout is also popular in the remote lakes of the west.
