Waterfowl Hunting in Canada

Canada Duck HuntingWaterfowl numbers have increased incredibly throughout Canada in the last ten years, due mostly to milder weather and more attention paid to regulations that affect conservation. One of the results has been that in some areas, the Canada goose is actually seen as a pest, as the extensive grazing of the species is very destructive to habitat both natural and man made. As a result, hunting for Canada geese in particular is successful across the entire country, with the birds found anywhere bodies of water are present.

One of the best areas in the country to hunt for geese and waterfowl in Canada is the prairies. The flat land is on some of the major migratory routes of waterfowl when they go from their northern summer habitats to southern winter grounds, and with bodies of water at a premium those that are to be found are sure to have hundreds of birds on them during the autumn months.

The sheer number of waterfowl species in Canada is baffling, with most found across the country. Snow geese were once a rare sight in the west but now occur in such great numbers that they are open for hunting. The best place to hunt these birds, like others, is along migratory pathways that lead from north to south.
